Creating concept maps from a text is a very effective study method because it helps to summarise it with a visually striking graphic tool. Having one or more concept maps summarising a text helps to fix the main concepts and the relationships between them, to better understand the topic, to repeat it or to explain it aloud.
Compared to making them with pen and paper, creating concept maps online offers several advantages: it makes it easier to edit and update your maps and allows you to make them more interactive with images, videos and other multimedia resources.
Imagine having notes in digital format, a Word document, chapters of a book or a web page to study and understand in order to deepen a topic. How convenient would it be to be able to transform the source text into a concept map automatically and then customize it online? On Algor Education, the platform for learning online with concept maps, you can do this from any text on any subject and you can try it for free!
In this article we take a step-by-step look at how to create concept maps automatically from your own text with Algor Education.
The first step to creating automatic concept maps with Algor Education from your texts is to log in with your personal account from your PC or tablet. If you don't have an account yet, visit algoreducation.com and then click Sign In or go directly to app.algoreducation.com and sign up for free. If you have a Google account, registration will be even faster.Registering on Algor Education gives you direct access to the Free Plan, which allows you to start creating concept maps and have 30 AI credits available, to spend on using all the automatic features of the App.
Once logged in, you will find yourself in your Personal Area, where you can quickly access the main functions of the app and easily manage all your material or maps shared by other users.

To turn your text into a concept map, click on '+ Text to Map', a box will open in which you can enter it.
You will now have to insert the text you wish to synthetise in the form of a concept map into the box. You can write the text directly by hand or copy and paste it from any source: a Word document, a PDF file, a web page such as Wikipedia.

You can choose any text on any topic. The important thing is to paste it carefully into the box, taking care to correct any formatting errors: the better quality of the text you insert, the better quality the map will be. Pay attention to the length of the text: it must be a maximum of 12,000 characters including spaces. For this guide we will use a text on Volcanoes and the Earth's interior. After copying the text from a document, we paste it into the box.
Once you have checked that the entered text is OK, click on the orange 'Create' button. After a few seconds of processing, we obtain our concept map on Volcanoes directly in Algor Education's concept map editor, automatically generated and ready to be reworked.

The map will have a title, in this case "The Volcanoes", macro-topics such as "The Structure of the Earth", "The Structure of Volcanoes", "Life Cycle of Volcanoes", "Types of Volcanoes" and gradually proposes more and more specific sub-topics linked in a hierarchical manner to the nodes above. We warn you that it may contain some uncertainties or omit some topics and we advise you to reread and revise it carefully.

You can now take advantage of all the features of the Algor Education editor to customise your concept map, even in real time with other users. You can change the font, style and colours of the text, easily change the map layout, move individual nodes or entire branches, insert other nodes with text, images, video, audio, links to web pages to make the map more interactive.

And if you want to add information from documents or digital books, Algor Education allows you to upload Pdf or Word files and have them communicate directly with the editor. You can also listen to them with text-to-speech.
